Why Tuesday Matters.

Today’s Marketing Cookie is all about what makes Tuesday think it’s so special.

While my coffee was still brewing this morning, I clicked on the lights in my office, sat down at my desk, and read today’s fortune. It struck me as odd, so I asked Bunny our cat sitting next to me, “Tuesday? What’s so special about Tuesdays, Bunny?” She had nothing to say. Apparently, studies have consistently shown that Tuesday is often the most productive day of the week. I know this is true, because I just looked it up. Here’s what I found:

A survey conducted annually since 1987 by Accountemps, shows that managers have consistently identified Tuesday as the most productive day of the week by employees—by a huge margin. The peak for Tuesday is so high compared to the rest of the days of the week, it would be like plopping Mount Everest in Orlando and letting the productivity rapidly roll downhill to sea level in Miami by the time you get to Friday. Whooosh! It looks like a ski slope.

I was 15 years old in 1987 when this survey started, and it also happens to be the year I landed my very first job. I got $10 a week to draw the cartoons for the editorial section of the Blackstone Valley Tribune. My illustrations were always due on Wednesdays, so yeah, I definitely felt some pressure on Tuesday nights.

The next survey I looked at was the RoboHead 10000 productivity index, which I hadn’t heard of before this morning. It specifically measures productivity among marketing and creative professionals, which is quite appropriate indeed for a Marketing Cookie. Their survey supports the notion that Tuesday is the most productive day of the week, but the margin over the other days is not nearly as wide. Perhaps because in the life of a marketer, every day is a Tuesday.

The interesting thing I discovered from RoboHead however, is that they also measure the productivity of marketing by month. What was the busiest month of the year by far? February. The productivity in the second month of the year for marketing is insanely high, just like the second day of the week for everyone else. Hmmm. Maybe we should just call it “Tuesuary”?

Maybe the real takeaway here isn’t just about specific days or months being naturally productive. It's more about recognizing the moments when we can tap into that energy and make the most of it. Whether life gives us these pockets of time, or we create them, we need to make sure we can see the path ahead with fresh eyes. In those moments, we have the chance to align our objectives and make real progress so it can be as today's fortune says, "Tuesday brings clarity to your goals and aspirations."
