Come Back Later.

Today's Marketing Cookie made me chuckle because after writing these cookie posts every day for nearly four months straight, there are some days when I don't want to write anything and I'd rather just rest. For some reason, however, I keep writing them, and I think it's because I love it. I've learned that if you love what you do, it never really feels like work. However, sometimes you simply need to take a break, catch your breath, and come back refreshed.

Last year I did a lot of flying across the country and speaking at various marketing conferences. While it was a terrific experience and quite wonderful to meet so many smart people, I was running myself ragged. Speaking was a terrific way to raise awareness for our agency, but after missing time with my family and not being in the office for more than a few days at a time, my team agreed it was time to rest.

This year, we cut way back on speaking engagements to just once per month, and it has been wonderful. I think in some ways, writing these marketing cookies every day has filled the gap in my schedule, which gives me cause to wonder, will I grow weary of writing every day? I suppose so. When that happens, I'll hang a sign on the blog that reads, "Come back later... I am sleeping." (Yes, Marketing Cookies need their sleep too.)
